POLCKA
YESTERDAY. EXPLAINED.
FOR NEW YORKERS
ABOUT POLCKA
The world got complicated. We got lazy.

Somewhere along the way, reading the news became a full-time job.
You needed six subscriptions, an economics degree, a political science degree, three podcasts, seven browser tabs and someone on Twitter explaining what everyone else on Twitter was talking about.
We thought that seemed unnecessary.
So we made Polcka.
Polcka takes the important stories from yesterday and explains them in normal human language.
No unnecessary jargon. No pretending you already understand bond yields. No 4,000-word explanation before getting to the point. Just the stuff that matters. Explained simply.
And preferably with a joke.
Our editorial rule is very scientific: If Josh and Aunt Margie on the 16th floor can’t understand it, we rewrite it.
We are not here to tell you what to think. We are here to help you understand what everyone else is talking about. Think of us as the friend who read everything so you didn’t have to.
Except this friend occasionally uses artificial intelligence. Quite a lot, actually.
POLCKA
YESTERDAY. EXPLAINED.
Smart news. Stupid simple.
OUR VERY SERIOUS JOURNALISTIC METHOD
- Find out what happened.
- Remove the complicated words.
- Explain it to Josh.
- Explain it again because Josh still doesn’t get it.
- Ask Aunt Margie.
- Publish.
Journalism has never been more scientific.
